An assembly fitted to a subsea power or communications cable where it leaves the seabed and enters a structure such as a wind turbine monopile or jacket. It prevents over-bending, abrasion and fatigue in the unsupported span, typically combining a bend restrictor or bend stiffener, protective ducting and a latching or hang-off device.
A tapered polyurethane moulding that gradually increases the bending stiffness of a cable, umbilical or flexible riser at a rigid connection. It spreads curvature over a longer length to control bending stress and fatigue, and is used in both dynamic (moving) and static applications.
A series of interlocking elements (vertebrae) fitted around a cable or flexible pipe that articulate freely until they lock at a defined radius, preventing the product from bending beyond its minimum bend radius (MBR). Bend restrictors are mainly used in static applications.
A bend stiffener continuously adds stiffness and is suited to dynamic loads and fatigue; a bend restrictor offers no resistance until it locks at a set radius and is suited to static, accidental over-bend protection.
The smallest radius a cable, umbilical or pipe can be bent to without damage. Bend management products are designed to keep the product above its MBR during installation and service.
A J-shaped steel conduit on an offshore structure through which a subsea cable or riser is pulled from the seabed up to the topside. J-tube seals close the bottom of the tube to protect the cable and retain internal fluids.
A cable entry method for offshore wind foundations that removes the external J-tube; the cable passes through an aperture in the monopile wall and is held by a latching device on the cable protection system.
A mechanical termination that supports the weight of a cable, umbilical or riser at the top of a J-tube or structure, transferring axial load into the structure.
A clamp-on syntactic foam module that adds uplift to a cable, umbilical or riser to create configurations such as a lazy-wave, reducing loads at the touchdown point and on the host structure.
A clamp-on weight added to a cable or flexible product to improve on-bottom stability, control configuration, or counteract buoyancy.
A subsea line bundling electrical cables, hydraulic and chemical tubes and fibre optics to control and supply subsea equipment from a host facility.
A fitting attached to the end of a cable or flexible product so it can be winched through a J-tube, bellmouth or I-tube during installation.
