SES Welcomes Mohamed Shalaby as Design & Project Engineer

Subsea Energy Solutions (SES) are delighted to welcome Mohamed Shalaby to the team as Design & Project Engineer

1. Can you tell people a bit about yourself (and what you do outside of work)?

I’m a design and project engineer with a passion for solving complex problems and creating innovative solutions. Outside of work, I love to stay active— cycling, running, and absolutely looking after my family as I always prioritise family. I also have a keen interest in technology, so I often spend time tinkering with new gadgets or learning about the latest developments in engineering and design. I believe that staying curious and engaged in different activities keeps me sharp both professionally and personally.

2. Where did you go to uni and what did you study?

I accomplished a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering before arriving to the UK in Sep 2020 to start a 2-year master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with Advanced Practise at Teesside university. The program gave me a strong grounding in both the theoretical and practical aspects of engineering as I’ve completed an internship with JDR Cables. I was fortunate to work on some hands-on projects during my time at university that really sparked my interest in how complex systems come together in real-world applications.

3. What inspired you to join Subsea Energy Solutions and what excites you most about working in engineering?

I've always been captivated by the way engineering can solve significant, practical problems, and Subsea Energy Solutions offered me an exciting opportunity to use my abilities in a cutting-edge sector. Being able to work on subsea projects is inspiring, especially in a field that is so important to the energy industry's future. I'm most excited about working in engineering because of how quickly processes and technology are developing. Being a part of the process and coming up with solutions that have a genuine impact is something I genuinely like. Every day brings a new challenge.

4. What are your thoughts on the future of the energy industry and where would you like to take your career?

The energy sector is heading toward sustainability and innovation in the future, with a particular emphasis on energy storage, renewable energy, and lowering carbon footprints. With advancements in subsea energy generation, offshore wind, and carbon capture, the subsea industry will be crucial to this shift. In the subsea industry I envision myself developing further, becoming a better project engineer, and eventually assuming a leadership position where I can oversee significant, important projects that support the switch to cleaner energy sources.

5. If you could describe Subsea Energy Solutions in one line after your first few days, what would it be?

A forward-thinking, collaborative company that’s committed to innovation and sustainability in the subsea energy sector.
