Job Description

This is an opportunity to become the Managing Director of a subsea engineering and manufacturing company (Catterick head office).

A major part of this role will be to develop existing customer relationships and open up new markets whilst supporting the wider organisation in the sale and manufacture of cost-effective subsea engineered products.

The MD will direct the vision and strategy for the organisation and be responsible for the overall P&L of the business, supported by the Chairman and other directors. Reporting lines include operations, engineering, production and HR.

The business has recently taken on investment from a new parent company and the new MD will be crucial to create and drive forward the strategy to achieve its ambitions. 

You will be joining a business with autonomy and responsibility to lead a team of circa 20 people on the next phase of its journey. The opportunity is open to anyone from a sales, commercial, engineering or director level background looking to make the next step in their career. 

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the company’s vision and strategy to ensure that company achieves its short and long-term objectives of the board and shareholders.
  • Provide strategic advice and reporting to the board so that they have accurate views of the market and the company’s future.  
  • Provide leadership and direction to the executive team and senior management. Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performance culture within the organisation. Mentor and develop key management personnel to build a strong leadership pipeline.
  • Prepare and implement comprehensive business plan to facilitate achievement by planning cost-effective operations and market development activities.
  • Ensure company policies and legal guidelines are communicated all the way from the top down in the company and that they are followed at all times.
  • Set performance targets and monitor progress towards achieving them. Conduct regular performance reviews and implement corrective actions as needed. Ensure key performance indicators (KPIs) are met across all departments.
  • Communicate and maintain trusted relationships with clients, shareholders, business partners, employees and authorities.
  • Oversee the company’s financial performance, investments and other business ventures, to ensure that the Company maintains its competitive position.
  • Delegate responsibilities and supervise the work of managers within the business providing guidance and motivation to drive maximum performance.
  • Act as the public speaker and public relations representative of the company in ways that strengthen its profile.
  • Analyse problematic situations and occurrences and provide solutions to ensure company survival and grow.
  • Oversee the sales strategy and approach to winning new business. This includes managing the proposals team.
  • Create an environment that motivates employees ensuring that they are fully aware of what is expected of them and recognises their success.
  • Comply with responsibilities as laid down in Quality, Health, Safety & Environment Policies 
  • At all times comply with company policies, procedures and instructions, working with the management team to implement these.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the directors or shareholders.

Key Skill Requirements:

  • Impeccable moral character and integrity.
  • Proven track record in a senior managerial position with evidence of achievement of objectives, budgets and KPI's.
  • Strong sales, negotiation and commercial awareness.
  • Demonstrable experience in developing strategic business plans, corporate finance and management best practices.
  • Significant experience in engineering, manufacturing, or fabrication. 
  • A proven manager of people with a measurable track record of creating successful teams in service delivery with tangible achievements in improvement and change management.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills; including the ability to communicate with internal & external customer contacts and must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organisation.
  • Excellent analytical skills - the ability to assimilate and analyse base data and provide commercially sound and viable business solutions.
  • Goal focused, reputation for delivery. 
  • Passion for service excellence. Good under pressure.


Nice to Haves

  • Proven track record as a Managing Director with P&L responsibility for a multi-million business.
  • Experience of parent company reporting.
  • Experience of financial management.
  • An understanding of SURF (Subsea Umbilical’s, Risers and Flowlines) in the Oil/Gas and renewable markets.
